Teaching Evidences

Hi Natalie,

Thanks for your message. I am under the impression that you do not need to record it all three times; instead, you fill out the rating forms that can be found here:

https://teach.mindfulnessexercises.com/course/instructions-application-for-certificate-of-completion/

For certification, you will need to submit audio and video (as outlined here). I am going to double check some specifications on this and will get back to you when I find out more.

Hi @nataliekarneef,

So here - https://teach.mindfulnessexercises.com/mindfulness-meditation-teacher-certification/ - where it says:

Submit audio and/or video of yourself teaching the foundational principles of mindfulness:
-non-judgment; not good or bad, right or wrong... rather: pleasant, pleasant or neutral
-primary emphasis on body and 5 senses
-allowance, care and curiosity of this actual experience
-non-reactivity; not grasping, avoiding or pushing away

... one recording will suffice. For the other meditations you lead, you will just need to fill out one rating form per type of practice (7 forms in total).

Let me know if all this (including the above) answers your question!

Thanks Gillian. So to clarify: do we fill out these rating forms? Or does a student do it?

Thank you!

Thanks Gillian! Yet another question about this 😄 I'm a bit confused about the language of these forms. "Strengths" - does that mean the strengths of the meditation itself? "Learning needs": whose? Mine or the students? Competency rating: am I rating myself in teaching this practice?

Thank you!

Hi Natalie!

Yes, you are to fill this out and give yourself a rating. For the Competency Rating, you'll see at the bottom of the rubric you have the choices of: Incompetent, Beginner, Advanced Beginner, Competent, Proficient, Advanced (there is more about this here: https://teach.mindfulnessexercises.com/course/instructions-application-for-certificate-of-completion/)

And for Strengths and Learning Needs, these both apply to your own abilities as a teacher. So just to give an example for the 'Relational Skills' category, someone might write:

EVIDENCE: I felt present and receptive when attendees were sharing their experiences after the session. A friend who attended the class offered me honest feedback saying that I broached the discussion period with a calm and welcoming energy.

STRENGTHS: I listen with an open heart and remain available for questions or comments before or after each session. I respond to feedback with humility and curiosity.

LEARNING NEEDS: I could learn more about how to address questions I don't know the answers to. Sometimes I feel nervous if I don't have a clear answer for something, but I am practicing acceptance of 'not knowing'.

RATING: Competent

Does this help?

One more question! 😆 For the video we record for the certification: do we teach all the foundational principles of mindfulness, as listed? And, does the recording have to be done live in front of students? Or just a recording?

Thanks Gillian!

Hi Natalie 🙂

Yes, for the recording you need to touch on the four points listed under 'Submit audio and/or video" - https://teach.mindfulnessexercises.com/mindfulness-meditation-teacher-certification/

If you touch on all four points over two different sessions, you are welcome to include a couple of recordings that cover all of the listed foundational principles.

Ideally this would be a recording of a session you lead no matter how large or small (though it can simply be audio so it does not need to include any evidence of their being an audience).
