  1. I've contemplated creating a checklist for myself to keep on track with the course--perhaps a daily or weekly checklist, and then a more zoomed out checklist, like what I want to accomplish each month. There's something so satisfying about checking off that to-do list, and it helps me stay on track.
  2. I was inspired to do this program after coming across a job posting for a mindfulness teacher working with high school students that sounded amazing to me, but I didn't have any credentials I could show that exemplifies "I know how to do this". I would absolutely love to teach mindfulness as my full-time job. I don't know if that will come to pass or not, but I know that doing this course will be so helpful! In the meantime, mindfulness is what has sustained me through some very difficult times in my life, and it continues to sustain me and enrich my life. Even if I don't end up being a full-time mindfulness teacher, I have the idea that I want to lead a meditation group in whatever workplace I find myself next. We had a meditation group in my previous workplace, and I so appreciated having that opportunity at work to step away from my computer and just sit with some of my coworkers. It was so good for my spirit, and I think it was so good for fostering a sense of community and mutual support at work.
  3. I got this book a few months ago, so I'm so happy to see this group discussing the book! I find David Treleaven's insights so useful for me in processing my own trauma, and thinking about how it interacts with mindfulness practice for me.
  4. I really admire the kindness and patience of my favorite teachers. They are consistently present for every person who shows up in the room. I truly admire that quality.
  5. Hi LeAnne! Good to meet you. I'm also a newbie to the course. Sending you all the good vibes, and I hope you enjoy this course as much as I already am!
  6. Hi Emil! Good to meet you. I'm also a newbie to the course. Sending you all the good vibes, and I hope you enjoy this course as much as I already am! I grew up in northern California -- a tiny mountain town called Weaverville, an hour west of Redding in the Trinity Alps. I miss the beauty of that part of the world, although I am also in a beautiful place now (Portland, Oregon).
  7. Hi Sreemanth! Good to meet you. I have been to India (sort of). I spent several years in Bangladesh, and once we took a boat across to India and just got to step on Indian soil for a few minutes! I still want to properly explore India someday. (At the time I was so busy with teaching and a baby, not much time or energy for traveling.) I'm also a newbie to the course. Sending you all the good vibes, and I hope you enjoy this course as much as I already am!
  8. Hi Alan! Good to meet you. Your organization sounds amazing! Sending you all the good vibes, and I hope you enjoy this course as much as I already am!
  9. Hi Jaclyn! Good to meet you. I'm also a newbie to the course. Sending you all the good vibes, and I hope you enjoy this course as much as I already am!
  10. Hello to my fellow Oregonian! I went through a PhD program as well, so I know what that grind is like! My teenager is thinking of attending U of O! We're heading down there soon to check it out. Sending you warm wishes, Melissa
  11. Hello! My name is Melissa, and my pronouns are she/her or they/them. I am a professional in higher ed administration. I am passionate about mindfulness, and I have been practicing meditation for 11 years now. I currently sit with folks in the Zen tradition at the Heart of Wisdom Zen Temple in Portland, Oregon. I'm looking into ways that I can teach mindfulness to my own teenage kiddo, and perhaps to folks at work. For many years, I was a college instructor in English, history, American studies, ethnic studies, communications, and English for Speakers of Other Languages. I love teaching. And I love what meditation has done for me. I want to share that gift with others.
